We are extremely proud to announce Dean’s involvement in Water Aid’s latest amazing awareness campaign ‘Pump up the Volume’.

The Campaign asks Glastonbury 2013 festival-goers to Pump up the Volume – for a world wHere everyone, everywhere has safe water and sanitation by 2030. Water Aid will be all over the site gathering signatures that will then be taken to the UN in September, calling for universal access to safe water and sanitation. At their stand, you will be able to support the campaign by having your photo as you Pump up the volume.

DEAN CHALKLEY - 'YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET' - FotoMuseum, Antwerp

Music and photography are inseparably linked. You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet shows the work of photographers who stand out for their unique style and original approach. The exhibition includes intimate backstage portraits, eccentric group portraits and iconic album covers. FoMu is showing work by, among others, Dean Chalkley, Joris Bulckens, Daniel Cohen, Charlie De Keersmaeker,Koen Keppens, Ryan McGinley, James Mollison, Alex Salians,Michael Schmelling, Oliver Sieber, Alex Vanhee, Eva Vermandeland Rob Walbers. The exhibition includes album cover art, music videos, photography books and an installation by Radio Soulwax.

Dean Chalkley featured in the Royal Photographic Society Magazine.

This months issue of the Royal Photographic Society magazine features a seven page article on Dean Chalkley, written by David Land. Within the feature you can find work from Dean's new face's series, Benedict Cumberbatch, Scarlet Johanson, Cath kidston and hush puppies campaigns. The article not only focus's on Deans photography, but also concentrates on his holistic approach to photography, with commentary on his films and installation.

Documentary 'London Calling' wins a Silver World Medal at the New York Festival's International Television & Film Awards

London Calling: The Untold Story Of British Pop won a Silver World Medal at the New York Festival's International Television & Films Awards in the category 'Documentary - The Arts'.

Directed by Simon Witter, the film focuses on the British Pop/Rock culture as well as celebrating its relationshop within other artistic disciplines.

The 2nd episode Every Picture Tells A Story features Dean Chalkley talking about the current scene and the nurturing of new talent. He also invites the London Calling cameras along to document one of his shoots.

The Soup Sessions welcomes the return of the wonderful Mr Dean Chalkley, coming Live from the basement of Hideaway Bar in London, “Tune in to catch a musical mystery tour, there will be lots of Soul, Rhythm & Blues and Black Cat flavors but also tangential excursions into the edges of Dean’s record collection.

This is Deans third appearance on Radio Nova Lujon the first with fellow Black Cat hipster Si Cheeba was a mammoth 9 hour session. The second was accompanied by friends Nick Corbin from New Street Adventure, Rob and Aaron from Almost Grown and not to forget the drop in moments of Paul Housden and Dale Ted Watkins.

'David Bowie Is' V&A Exhibition featuring La Roux shot By Dean Chalkley

The V&A has been given unprecedented access to the David Bowie Archive to curate the first international retrospective of the extraordinary career of David Bowie. David Bowie is will feature more than 300 objects that include handwritten lyrics, original costumes, fashion, photography, film, music videos, set designs and Bowie's own instruments.

The V&A’s Theatre and Performance curators, Victoria Broackes and Geoffrey Marsh have selected more than 300 objects that will be brought together for the very first time. They include handwritten lyrics, original costumes, fashion, photography, film, music videos, set designs, Bowie’s own instruments and album artwork.

The exhibition will explore the broad range of Bowie’s collaborations with artists and designers in the fields of fashion, sound, graphics, theatre, art and film. On display will be more than 300 objects including Ziggy Stardust bodysuits (1972) designed by Freddie Burretti, photography by Brian Duffy; album sleeve artwork by Guy Peellaert and Edward Bell; visual excerpts from films and live performances including The Man Who Fell to Earth, music videos such as Boys Keep Swinging and set designs created for the Diamond Dogs tour (1974). Alongside these will be more personal items such as never-before-seen storyboards, handwritten set lists and lyrics as well as some of Bowie’s own sketches, musical scores and diary entries, revealing the evolution of his creative ideas.

David Bowie is will conclude with a display of striking performance and fashion photography taken by photographers including Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts and John Rowlands. These professional portraits will be juxtaposed with a collage of visual projections illustrating Bowie’s immense creative influence and ubiquitous presence in music, fashion and contemporary visual and virtual culture, featuring one of Dean Chalkley's portraits of La Roux shot for NME.

Here is a little bit of information away from the Photographic and Film side of the activity at Chalkley Towers. For those of you that don't know Dean regularly DJ's and organises club nights around London and other parts of the UK. Soul and Rhythm & Blues form the core of his DJ sets but Latin Boogaloo, Rare Groove and other dancefloor filling genres are included in his unique sonic blends. Dean created SHAKE! at the Boogaloo that ran at the imfamous North London Venue  The Boogaloo Bar for 4 years (click  here for a live Radio Nova Lujon broadcast of one of the nights.). After that residency drew to a close Dean and his DJ buddy Si Cheeba started up ' Black Cat' at the crutial Club bar The Silver Bullet. Black cat has been running regularly there for 3 years.
Dean and his fellow Black Cat collective play only Vinyl records....

New Street Adventure: Fresh from their signing to ACID JAZZ RECORDS and recording of their debut album, New Street Adventure explode back onto the scene at The Borderline  Club on the 2 ^nd April .  This night will be  BIG!! Black Cats’s Dean and Si Cheeba will be spinning a very eclectic selection after the band, expect Rhythm and Blues, Northern Soul, Funk , Latin Boogaloo and even a more good times Hip Hop  angle to some of Mr. Cheeba’s selections.Black Cat is know for it’s cross pollination of styles , consistently great music that crosses genres and reaches to the outer limits, digging up killa tracks to the dancefloor. So get some rest this will be a night to remember

Photographer Dean Chalkley’s aim was to get people turning off the heating and pulling on a jumper instead.

“I find it so strange when people turn up the heating rather putting another a layer like a jumper. Jumpers are better than heating - they can make you really nice and hot. I’ve got one on now actually and I’m really toasty.”

“To make the point in a fun and impactful way, I wanted to make a jumper that was extraordinary so we found Korina Kyriakou, a jumper maker extraordinaire, and she designed and knitted something a little crazy for the shoot.”

“The guy wearing the jumper is Gideon, and he’s not only temperature hot, he looks hot too. I think Gideon will get lots of fan mail and his temperature will rise even more. He may even have to take a few layers off.”

“We did the shoot with no artificial light by the way, just reflecting light from the windows. We did the green thing!”
