Stephen Morgan talks at Tate Britain
Stephen will be speaking at Tate Britain on Saturday in a talk about Urban Encounters.
"How does urban photography engage with and shape our understanding of public space? Join photographers, artists, architects and academics for a one-day symposium exploring how the theories and practices of urban space inform and shape our relationship to image-making. Contributors will engage with the idea of the public realm through a range of photographic practices and visual methodologies, the poetics and politics of architectural space, and contested sites of memory and memorialisation."

Images from Stephen Morgan's series "A Moment's Chance (and other short stories)" are being exhibited
in a joint show at The Wapping Project, Bankside.
Taking on small photographic trips around areas connected to his childhood memories, Stephen J. Morgan’s
understated but eloquent images display an evident closeness to his subject matter. They document passing details
and footnotes, the accumulation of which reveals a candid capture of the spirit of these familiar places, and a stark
portrayal of urban, working-class life in England . Stephen J. Morgan (b.1970, UK) has recently showed his work
at Photon, Ljubjana, Slovenia; the Birmingham Central Library and Jerwood space.
Forthcoming publications include Collecting Contemporary Photography, by Jocelyn Phillips, published
by Thames & Hudson.
